About Beacon Elementary School
Nickolus (Nic) South has been privileged to provide servant leadership in public education for over two decades. He is an inspirational, innovative and relational leader that believes leadership is a presence, not just a position. Nic has experience in both charter and traditional public school settings (urban and suburban).
As a transformational leader, Nic believes that experience and evidence driven by data must be used to cultivate systems and processes that guide and govern the school culture and climate. Nic has worked collectively and collaboratively to lead teams in school improvement initiatives that have garnered accolades for accreditation, academic achievement and assessment growth to standard and beyond.
As an instructional leader (beginning in roles of administration at the age of 33) Nic has had the distinct opportunity to guide teams and lead buildings at the elementary, middle and high school levels. With regard to instructional pedagogy, Nic believes that research based instructional strategies that engage in higher order thinking with a fervency for individual creativity, yield the best outcomes. Classroom presence, teacher support, student engagement and collaborative parent communication with a focus on shared accountability guide his day to day decisions and direction. Nic has a personal mission to ensure that two things happen daily; teaching and learning! Excellence is the expectation, not the exception.
A native of Detroit, MI, Nic enjoys traveling extensively, is passionate about reading, fine dining and cultural arts.
